The use of histochemical and immunohistochemical staining for PAS followingdiastase digestion(D-PAS),Keratin(KT),Lower molecular weight cytokeratin(10.11),Carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA),Epithelial membrane antigen(EMA)andVimentin(Vim)in the differential diagnosis of mesothelioma(10 cases)from pulm-onary adenocarcinoma(31 cases)and breast carcinoma(30 cases)was presented. The results suggested that D-PAS,10.11,EMA,CEA and Vim might be of helpto distinguish mesothelioma from adenocarcinoma, especiall…

In order to observe the lesionsof pleural mesothelia caused by asbestos,we injected asbestos fiber into the pleuralcavity of Wistar rats. The result showedthat there Was an obvious process for themorphological genesis of mesothelioma.Sim-ple hyperplasia and stratified pleomorphichyperplasia of mesothelial cells were foundon the 30th and 106th day after the injec-tion of asbestos fiber, respectively. Thebenign and malignant mesotheliomas werenoted on the 300th day. Meanwhile, a two-way differenti…

The ultrastructures of pleural mesothelioma were compared between patients patients with lung cancer and normal subjects by pathological technique under scanning electron microscope. The results showed that in the normal subjects the contour of mesothelial cells of visceral pleura was clear, and their surface swarmed with high or low microridges and microvilli, while in the patients with lung can- cer the mesothelial cells were swollen, microridges disappeared, numerous plasmalemmal pores appeared on ce…

To analyze the ultrasonography of pr imary malignant mesothelioma.Method:Comparing the pictures from ul-trasound,eight primary malignant m esothelioma cases proved by operation or autopsy were reviewed.Result:The result showed the char-acteristics of primary malignant me sothelioma from ultrasonography as following:â‘ The parietal peritoneum was thicken ed like placen-ta,and the visceral peritoneum was a lso thickened. It was often shown that the digestive system and intestinal loops were surro…

Aim: To explore and compare the clinical diagnostic importance of MRI versus CT in malignant pleural mesothelioma. Methods: Twenty-five cases of malignant pleural mesothelioma were verified by histology or cytology. All of them were examined with both MRI and CT. The imaging characteristics and their clinical diagnostic importance were analysed comparatively. Results: Except for the experssivity of calcification of tumor, MRI had commonly superior detection and evaluation of morphology …

Objective To improve our knowledge of clinical features, diagnostic and therapeutic methods of diffuse malignant peritoneal mesothelioma(DMPM) in women. Methods Through analyzing the ways of diagnosis and the course of treatment in 5 cases of female DMPM hospitalized from 1990 to 2000, we summarized its general diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Results Clinical manifestations of this disease were acute and chronic abdominal pain, distension, intraperitoneal and pelvic masses, ascites. Spontaneous r…

Background: Cutaneous mesothelioma is rare but may occur following local surgical procedures for visceral mesothelioma or as a metastasis. Methods: A patient with pleural mesothelioma, who developed papules within chest wall scars, 14 and 15 months after pleural biopsy and thoracentesis, respectively, is reported. Results: Histopathology showed an epithelioid tumor forming tubulopapillary and glandular structures. The diagnosis of mesothelioma was confirmed with immunohistochemistry.Tum…

To evaluate medical thoracoscopy in the diagnosis and treatment of pleural mesothelioma. Twenty-one patients with pleural mesothelioma were studied, 17 male and 4 female, with a mean age of (62±12) years. All were brought into medical thoracoscopy after three consecutive pleurorrhea cytology and percutaneous pleural biopsy. The patients with diffuse pleural mesotheloima underwent pleurodesis after thoracoscopy. The diagnostic yield of all three techniques compared, complications and the effect …
