Objective:To study the distribution of bacteria in halitosis patients. Methods:Test of bacteria restrain of Porphyromononas gingival isand Actinomyces Israelii was carried out by collecting plaque on tongue and periodontis poke from among 30 halitosis patients and 30 healthy people, for the quantitive cultivation of aerobe, microaerobe and anaerobe. Results:There were notable differences of tongue blade anaerobe and microaerobe(P<0 01) between halitosis patients(12 2±1 32)and healt h y people (9 5±1 24)…

Objective: To assess effect of periodontal therapy (scaling and root planing,SRP) on elimination of halitosis and reduction of volatile sulfur compounds(VSCs) level in mouth air,and to compare the effects of SRP combined with cleaning tongue coating (SRP CT) with those of SRP or CT on reducing VSCs. Methods: 117 periodontitis patients were divided into two groups according to organoleptic rating(OR): halitosis group(HG,85 cases) and no halitosis group(NHG,32 cases). VSCs level measurements before an…

Objective The object of this study was to assess the anti-halitosis effect of carboxymethyl chitosan through its binding bacteria effect and its influencing on the odor production of these bacteria. Methods Five oral bacterial species were selected in this study, they were Porphyromonas gingivalis,Prevotella intermedia,Fusobacterium nucleatum,Actinomyces viscosus and Streptococcus mutans.Gas chromatographic(GC) technique was employed for the evaluation of VSC and indole metabolized production of three…

Objective To analyse the relationship between halitosis and oral bacteria. Methods 29 patients with oral malodor were included in the study. Volatile sulfur compounds(VSCs) were measured by Halimeter,a portable sulphide monitor. Samples were taken and cultivated under anaerobic conditios from periodontal pockets, tongue dorsa and saliva, respectively. The numbers of bacteria(colony forming unit,CFU/ml) were counted. Results The VSCs levels were positively correlated with total anaerobes (P< 0.01), blac…

Halitosis is used to describe an unpleasant odor when breathing. The main component of odor is volatile sulfur compounds. It was caused by many factors, but 90% of bad breath originates within the oral cavity. Treatment of halitosis contains two aspects: mechanical treatment and chemical treatment.

Objective To evaluate the possibility and efficiency of Chinese herbs as new drugs for preventing and treating halitosis. Methods Efficient substances extracted from Chinese herbs were identified by sulfur gases, vo- latile sulphur compounds (VSCs) producing tests by Halimeter and antimicrobial sensitivity tests performed on 96 microwell plates. Results Extracts from 14 kinds of plants showed efficient inhibition on VSCs upon the microorga- nisms from the patients. Their VSCs values were 23.75 to 75.5…

AIM:To assess the anti-halitosis effect of radix scutellariae and tea polyphenol through their inhibiting halitosis-correlated bacteria effect and their influencing on the odor induced by cysteine.METHODS:â‘ Porphyromonas gingivalis,Prevotella intermedia and Fusobacterium nucleatum were chosen as the experimental bacteria. The minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC) of two kinds of agents was tested through minute amount serial dilution test.â‘¡Capability of influencing on the odor production of ha…

PURPOSE: The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between halitosis and Helicobacter pylori infection in stomach. METHODS: Fifty subjects without periodontal diseases and systematic disease (exclude gastrointestinal diseases) were included. Infection of H.pylori was diagnosed by biopsy and 14C-urea breath test. SPSS11.5 software package was used to analyze the data. RESULTS: All the subjects were periodontal healthy according to the periodontal index. The prevalence of H.pylori infecti…

Objective To establish a salivary sediment malodor system, and to evaluate the effect of several kinds of bacteria dedicated to the halitosis formation, hence to identify halitosis-correlated bacteria. Methods The proportion of the supernatant and sediment, gained from centrifugal whole saliva, was adjusted to establish a salivary sediment malodor system incubated in facultative aerobic environment under 37 ℃ for 7 hours. The halitosis indexes in both gaseous phase and liquid phase were che…

Oral malodor, also known as halitosis,is a widespread problem, which is mainly caused by volatile sulphur compound(VSC).VSC is produced by Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria.Oral malodor reduction may be obtained by a combination of chemotherapeutical and mechanical treatments. However, these modalities exhibit only temporary effects. And some undesirable side effects may occur when they are used in the oral cavity for long periods.Streptococcus salivarius is known to be normal flora in the mouth. They might …
